Happy Thanksgiving, Juniper Junction

[ The following extract was printed in the Juniper Branch Newspaper on Monday, November 25, 1867. ]

Think what you might about the former Abraham Lincoln, but don't forget to offer your gratitude for Thanksgiving Day this Thursday. Lincoln declared the national holiday three years ago in the midst of the Civil War and turkeys, wild and otherwise, haven't been safe from the month of November since.

Mayor Dunlap has taken a particularly nationalist view of the holiday by implementing a dance for Juniper Junction's citizens this Thursday. Dunlap said it was a good way for neighbors to come together and get to know one another. The Church has volunteered to provide the food for a city wide meal on the holiday at noon. Turkey, cranberry sauce, and mince, apple and pumpkin pie will be available for consumption. Ladies of Juniper are encouraged to bring additional dishes to share.

The dance will begin in the city square outside of the Mayor's office at 3 o'clock pm with a bonfire to be lit at 6 o'clock pm. Musical entertainment will be provided for folks to dance to. Sheriff Williams asks that citizens leave their firearms and disputes at home.
